| Summary: | The aim of this study is to determine how the literary work affect to the other
literary works concerning with about the concept toward supernatural life of the
community time after time. This study uses two samples of literary works that
considered as a representation of its time about the concept of the supernatural life,
they are classical Malay literary works of Hikayat Raja Jumjumah and Perdjalanan
ke Achirat as Indonesian literary work that was born later.
This study used qualitative methods, because it will generate the descriptive
data. The data are the written words orally spoken of persons or behavior that can be
observed. All the data of this research were taken from the literature review (library
research). This study uses the theory of philology to search the most superior text of
some classical Malay literary works manuscripts of Hikayat Raja Jumjumah that was
found by the writer in the National library of Indonesia and then were subjected
together with Perdjalanan ke Achirat. To determine the intertextual relations between
both literary works the writer used intertextual and reception literary theories.
The results of this study showed that the HRJ manuscript after going through
several texts comparison and manuscripts of five existing scripts produces the most
superior script, that is A script with code number ML. 288. The writer divides the
relationship between two literary works in supernatural life in two categories. The
Positive categories (having the same text content) are the questions of Munkar and
Nakir and seeing the torments of hell. The Contrastive categories (having the opposite
text content) are taking the life, meeting with angels Munkar and Nakir, the grave
torture, the Throne of God, and getting the torments of hell. The concept Function in
both literary works are also carry the message to the readers that believe in the
supernatural life in this context is an attempt to strengthen the faith, deepen the
conviction that all forms of power, and the superiority of humans mind in the world.
There must be a relevance between the superiority and something greatest above all,
they are the God�s power and majesty, the Creator of the universe and all its contents.
