| Summary: | The layout of public open space of Yamdena plaza in the old downtown of
Saumlaki by the fucntion as seaport area and trading center makes this public open
space as an important media to accomodate society activities. By the fast growing of
commercial function of cooperation gives an impact for the density of public open
space of Yamdena plaza, thus, it impacts on the unevenly distribution of user activities
in all over of open public space. Moreover, the activity is not sustainable to do indeed.
Hence, it needs to consider how to make a confortable atmosphere where society can do
their activity in this ope public space and the user's activity time can be sustainbale by
the precisely arrangement of the public open space of Yamdena plaza in term of having
living ability in area of Yamdena plaza.
The present research uses rationalistic - qualitative approach by deductive
thingking. Therefore, the research stress on the issue comprehension in the field based
on realistic codition. It starts with identifying the user and activities as well as physical
element of public open space viewed from life stype concept, later on, it tries to manage
the resulted data and analyze it based on related theories. In addition, it sums up the
result of analysis concerning on living ability of public open space of Yamdena plaza,
thus, it finds the determinant elements shaping the living ability of public open space of
Yamdena plaza as well as influencing factors of living ability of the area.
The research result points out that there are physical and non-physical element
being as the strong determinant of living ability of public open space of Yamdena
plaza. At last, the recommendation that will be directed is the direction of layout
arrangement of public open space in Yamdena plaza at the old downtown of Saumlaki
viewed from life style concept.
