description Nasopharynx carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy in the head neck which is most commonly found in Indonesia. Several factors such as Epstein-Barr virus infection (EBV), nitrosamines, environmental and genetic suspected as the cause of the nasopharynx carcinoma. The existence of different incidence in each population and found the next generation of people with nasopharynx carcinoma will get the same diseases as well as the high incidence of nasopharynx carcinoma on emigrants from southern China in the western region with low incidence nasopharynx carcinoma indicate the involvement of genetic factors on the incidence of nasopharynx carcinoma. Epstein-Barr Virus infection is closely linked to the degree of cellular immunity and factors associated with imunogenetik, where EBV infection will cause an immune response in the patient himself to recognize and eliminate foreign antigens HLA molecules associated with the ability to present antigen to cell T cytotoxic. This study has purpose to determine the presence of HLA-A2402 allele gene as a risk factor of nasopharynx carcinoma incident in RS Sardjito. The method used a case-control study with sample groups were patients who had signs and symptoms of nasopharynx carcinoma with the results of IgA> 0.35, whereas the control group was a patient with asymptomatic nasopharynx carcinoma and IgA titers 0.35. Patient data extracted from medical records patients who came to ENT clinic dr Sardjito Yogyakarta from October 2010 until September 2011, which not included in the criteria were excluded.  Measurements were performed with blood sampling as much as 2 groups of patients in case group 5ml and 5ml in control, then we did isolation of DNA followed by PCR gene amplifications. The statistical analysis used Chi squares and logistic regression. Chi squares (univariabel analysis, HLA A2402 allele as a risk factor) to obtain Odds ratio, CI 95% and 5% significance level. If the expected value in one cell was less than 5 so it would use Fischer's exact test to determine the OR. Logistic regression (multivariate analysis) were used to determine the role of each independent variable in addition to the HLA gene alleles A2402 towards nasopharynx carcinoma. According to the analysis, the incidence of HLA alleles gene A2402 was one of risk factors for nasopharynx carcinoma with OR4,46 and not significant, and age 40 years also as a risk factor for incident nasopharynx carcinoma with OR 4.03 and p <0.05.
