factors. Although the relationship between accident and traffic conflict is still debated, but
traffic conflict has already proven effective in preventively analyzing the level of safety.
Recent development of traffic conflict method is done by Cafiso et al (2011) by linking
traffic conflict with pedestrian risk level stated by Pedestrian Risk Index (PRI). Therefore,
this study sought to analyze pedestrian safety based on understanding, behavior, traffic
conflict, and the pedestrian risk level stated by Pedestrian Risk Index (PRI). Case study was
conducted on student pedestrians in SMPN 4 Sukoharjo.
This study used two kinds of primary data, ie traffic conflict data and subjects�
responses to research instruments. The research instruments consisted of understanding
of pedestrian behavior scale, pedestrian behavior questionnaire and Big Five Personality
Inventory (BFI). In the early stages, the recording of pedestrian was made to get the traffic
conflict data.Then the data was analyzed to obtain the value of Pedestrian Risk Index
(PRI). After that performed the identification of the pedestrians that had been recorded,
and they were given the research instruments such as those mentioned above.
From the data analysis known that the subjects tend to understand the risk of
unsafe crossing behavior and cross in a safe manner. Crossing near parked or stopped
vehicles and behavior related to avoidance efforts are not likely to be understood properly
and be done with a higher frequency than other behaviors. The understanding of crossing
behavior does not affect the crossing behavior. Neuroticism personality factor influences
the crossing behavior with R square of 0,195. Crossing behavior has no effect on
involvement in traffic conflict and in the PR). The time and the type of crossing increase
the chance of traffic conflict involvement. The PRI has a positive correlation with vehicle
speed (r value of 0,772). Based on the number of traffic conflict and the PRI, crossings
during the day carried out in groups have the highest level of safety. |
