Description
Summary:This study aims to describe Yogyakarta teens mobile phone use in its structural context which involve schools authorities and parents. Data collection technique applied in this research is in-depth interview. Generally, it is found that structural relations in homes is not as intense as those in schools. Parents do not set many limitations to their teens mobile phone use. Meanwhile, there are two types of schools. One is school with restrictive approach which prohibits students from bringing their mobile phones to school. In this type of school, the formulation of rules regarding mobile phone use is conducted with no or little students participation due to their high potential to resist. The second type of school is one which allow students to carry their phones. School of this kind opt for self-regulatory approach which empower students to take a full responsibility for their own behavior. Hence, school authorities give their students discretion to formulate the rules regarding mobile phone use. On the other hand, there are two kinds of response students indicate toward the rule. Most students obey the rules that disallow them to take mobile phones to school. However, most of them break the rules banning them from using the tools during teaching hours.
