Summary: | The pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia has a uniqueness that is dominated by
domestic companies and is able to grow from year to year above inflation and economic
growth, and more market orientation into the country than to export to overseas. Begin
implementation of regional autonomy will certainly affect the structure of the pharmaceutical
industry in Indonesia.
One of the impacts of regional autonomy reform was marked by the enactment of the
Undang-Undang No: 22/1999 since 2001. This study aims to analyze the structure of the
pharmaceutical industry in the era of regional autonomy, to analyze the factors that affect the
structure of the pharmaceutical industry in the era of regional autonomy, and identify the key
success factors of pharmaceutical industry that the era of regional autonomy support the
development of the pharmaceutical industry. To support this, hence in this study used several
methods of analysis. The analytical method used consisted of analysis of industry
characteristics, the five forces model, fragmentation analysis, strategic group map, and
identify key success factors.
The study also discusses how the regional autonomy policy impact on the structure of
the pharmaceutical industry. Some examples of the impact of regional autonomy is the failure
of family planning programs, changes in centralized to decentralized markets, improving
health infrastructure such as pharmacies, PBF, and hospitals, and policies to provide herbal
medicines in health centers by several regions.
