Summary: | The thesis aims to analyze how the phenomenon of popular culture hallyu becomes a
potential source of South Korea soft power, and also to analyze the responds of
Indonesia. Analysis was done through literature studies of books, journal, research
report and also interview with some actors to find out the implications in Indonesia.
Through these sources, the author argues that hallyu is a phenomenon that�s never
planned and came as impact of globalization and technology development were
perceived South Korea and also the world. Although it, by looking the progress
overseas, now the government also taking advantages of hallyu to establish and
friendship with other countries. Through the soft power currencies, the author found
that the well received of hallyu because it has the power that can attract others.
Through it, the foreign community and Indonesian in particular responded with
various actions such as adoption of South Korean cultures, imitation, and study of
South Korea. South Korean taking advantages of popularity of hallyu in Indonesia is
nothing more to increase the images of South Korea itself.
