Results of polystyrene pyrolysis (crude oil) can be used for alternative energy sources or industrial raw material. The study was conducted to determine the characteristics of oil (crude oil) pyrolysis of plastic waste polystyrene (PS) with the addition of polypropylene additives and its potential utilization. Characteristics examined include heating value, specific gravity, viscosity, fire point, pour point and chemical composition of pyrolysis oil by Gas Chromatography - Mass spectrometry. The study was conducted with variation of percent weight additive polypropylene (PP) 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The total weight of the raw materials used 150 grams. Reactor wall temperature is set at a temperature of 450 ° C with a temperature of detention for 60 minutes. The results showed that by adding 10%weight additive PP would increase the quantity of polystyrene pyrolysis oil from 87.3% to 87.93% weight. More additives PP are added calorific value of pyrolysis oil is increasing (from 44.29 to 45.09 MJ / kg). Instead specific gravity decreased (from 0.9315 to 0.8812), similar results are also shown in the viscosity (1.005 to 0.912 mm2 / s). The results showed that the oil of polystyrene with additive polypropylene pyrolysis oil can be used as an alternative fuel. GC-MS results showed the most composition of pyrolysis oil is polystyrene styrene (56.9%) and toluene (12.09%). The addition 10% weight of polypropylene additives will increase styrene and toluene to be 70.22% and 12.13%. By purification, styrene and toluene can be taken to be utilized as raw materials to recycle polystyrene and the solvent.
