occurs when the harbor basin and navigation channel are located in the area of surf
zone. For maintaining the depth of the harbor basin, dredging works is therefore
needed (maintenance dredging works) which is relatively costly. Underwater sill is
one of the sediment control structures with more economic construction cost and
capability in protecting the harbor area against sedimentation. The aim of this study is
to identify the influence underwater sill (UWS) lay out to the behaviors of flow and
sediment transport.
This research was conducted tested for two models of underwater sill were lay
out model rectangular and trapezoidal with height variations is 10cm, 11cm, 12cm,
13cm, 14cm and 15cm with length is 40 cm and the width is 20 cm.The model is
placed in the flume is filled by water with the water level 20 cm from the bottom
of the channel with flow rate is 10 l/sec. The measurements conducted was
the measurement of flow velocity to around the structure and in the UWS using
current meter, and resulting data to analysis the flow and sediment debit.
The results showed that there is the influence lay out models of UWS and
building height variations againts changes of velocity distribution and sediment
transport, UWS can deflect the flow and the harbour theoretically can be protected
from the sedimentation. Based on the results of theoretical study that there occurs the
reduction in debit of sediment suspended is not significant at every height, which
ranges between 3% - 9%. On the square model in the relative height (h / d) = 1, 1.1,
1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 can reduce suspended sediment transport passing through UWS
protected by 58.4%, 51.2%, 43.4%, 36.3% , 30.1%, and 26.1%, whereas for the
trapezoidal model by 48.5%, 39.8%, 33.8%, 24.3%, 20.1%, 16.4%. Trapezoidal
model is more effective than a square model, because trapezoidal model had the slope
of the walls that caused larger ability in deflecting the flow. |
