Summary: | The excessive use of resources beyond their natural recovery potential will
influence the availability of environment serve in the future. The use of slope of Lawu
Vulcano as forest area, water holding area and tourism area enables the environment to provide environment services for springs and tourism environment. Therefore, the
study aims at: (1) identifying actual condition, institution and management policies of
the environmental services, (2) analyzing management institution of the environmental
services, (3) diagnosing management policies of the environmental services, and (4) To
establishing the management startegies in the environmental services.
It employs descriptive and qualitative method. The data is collected using
interview, documentation, map, and table. The location of the study is determined using purposive sampling. The analysis model is stakeholder analysis of the management of the environment service of Lawu Vulcano. Based on the results of the analysis it is found that the potential of the environment services of the slope of Lawu Vulcano in Karanganyar district are forest resource of 8,008.02 ha, the tourism potential of Tawangmangu tourist complex, Grojogan Sewu waterfall, Parang Ijo and Jumog waterfalls, and Ngargoyoso Forest Park and the potetial of 33 springs. The forest resource is managed by Perum Perhutani and the people forest is managed by local people, the potential of the springs is managed by PDAM, PT. ULTRA, and by the local people on self-supporting basis, the tourist object of Grojogan Sewu waterfall is managed by PT. Duta Indonesia Jaya, and Parang Ijo and Jumog waterfalls are managed by the local people. The strategy in the management of the environment services is synthesized in the form of strategic intervention, consisting of capacity improvement, the development of environment service mechanism, and the supporting policy. The three primary factors necessary in the management of the environment services are the regulation of the environment service objects, the institutions, the distribution mechanism and the obligation of the users to contribute to the development of the environment service.
