Summary:The synthesis of prop-2-en-1-ol using glycerol as the starting material from animal fat transesterification has been carried out. Transesterification reaction was conducted to tallow beef with sodium methoxide in methanol, without heating, without termination reaction with strong acids and by prolonging the reaction time until complete reaction. This research was conducted to improve the value of glycerol and produce alternative fuels. Synthesis was conducted via elimination reaction of glycerol with methanoic acid by distillation method at 195 � 260 ºC. The structure were characterized with FTIR, 1H-NMR and GC-MS spectrometers. The analysis results of prop-2-en-1-ol using FTIR spectrometer indicate the presence of hydroxy group (�OH) at 3348.42 cm-1
