Summary: | Stigma is an obstruction of recovery for people with schizophrenia (PWS). In Indonesian society, it is common to find stigma towards PWS. Solution for this problem is to develop an anti-stigma program as an intervention to the community. This study examines the influence of psychoeducation towards knowledge about schizophrenia, negative stereotypes and social distance towards PWS. Negative stereotypes and social distance are variables that represent stigma. Participants involved in this study were junior high school students, as a representation of society. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups. Variables under study were measured three times (pretest, posttest, and follow-up). Data were analyzed using mixed design analysis of variance. The psychoeducation program was found to be significantly effective in reducing social distance towards PWS and improving knowledge about schizophrenia. It was also found to be not significantly effective in reducing negative stereotypes towards PWI in general
