Summary: | Attension deficit hyperactivity disorder is a neurobehavioural disorder
with symptoms such as persistent inability to concentrate, hyperactivity, and
impulsivity that aren�t age-appropriate. The cause of ADHD is multi-factorial.
The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and investigate the
characteristics of the risk factors that cause ADHD in the rural and urban areas.
This is a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of ADHD and
proceed to a case-control study to obtain the risk factors that influence ADHD in
the rural and urban areas. Subjects were elementary school children grade I - III.
The prevalence of ADHD in Cangkringan is 7, 48%. The ratio of ADHD
between boy and girl 6: 1. The rural prevalence is 46% and urban areas 54%.
The risk factors of ADHD in rural areas are families with hyperactive and
antisocial, the duration of interaction with parents <8 hours, complications of
pregnancy, low birth weight, not exclusive breastfeeding, history of head trauma,
age of initial exposure to TV <2 years with p < 0.05. While in urban areas are
families with hyperactive and antisocial, complications of pregnancy, not
breastfeeding, history of head trauma, and food additives and colors (p <0.05).
