description Orthodontist faced with the problem of how to obtain good adhesion between the ceramic bracket to a ceramic jackets to withstand orthodontic forces and mastication. This study aims to determine adhesion strength of ceramic brackets to ceramic jacket, between roughened ceramic jacket surface and non-roughened ceramic jacket surface, as well as attachment failure location between ceramic bracket to ceramic jacket. Twenty-four insisiv central ceramic attached inside a block of acrylic resin, grouped into two, groups A and B. Ceramic jacket surface then roughened in group A and non-roughened in group B, then ceramic bracket were attached using UV activated composite resin adhesive. Group A and B tested in term of their shear strength using Universal Testing Machine, and then surface of the ceramic jacket were photographed and examined using stereo zoom microscope Olympus, Japan, under 10x magnification to see where is the adhesive failure location. Both groups tested statistically using T test. The results showed that average shear strength of ceramic brackets to the surface of ceramic jacket that roughened (group A) was significantly higher (77.5558 ± 2.61541 Kg / cm ²) compared to the shear strength of ceramic brackets on the surface of ceramic jacket that does not roughened (group B) (60.5400 ± 3.09677 Kg / cm ²). The two groups were statistically significantly different. Both of the group, the adhesion failure lies on the adhesive material itself. The conclusion is the shear adhesion strength of ceramic brackets to ceramic jacket which is surface roughened were higher than to non-roughened ceramic jacket. The adhesion failure lies on the adhesive material itself.
