Description
Summary:Manufacturing processes is needed to form parts such as bone screws. This paper presents a method of manufacturing conventional bone screw through machining processes and forging/punching processes. Bone screws used in the fixation process of bone fractures or cracks on orthopedics implant. In this study, the design of the screws used for bone fixation process is the cortical bone screws type. Cortical bone screw has a threaded shaft and along the full smooth screw head half-ellipse shape. Materials used in the manufacturing process of the cortical bone screw type stainless steel 316L in which the machining process using a conventional lathe (CDL 6241, Krisbow, Indonesia) and for the forging/punching process used our own developed punching machine based on small and medium-technology industries. Bone screws produced by machining and forging/punching process is then performed hardness testing, and testing of surface roughness. The conclusion is that the bone screw obtained in the research is not significantly different to the bone screw from AO (Switzerland) / Original
