Summary: | Nanny�s illocutionary utterances in Nanny 911 are interesting phenomenons in
sociopragmatics. This research aims at describing types and functions of Nanny�s
illocutionary utterances in Nanny 911, explaining the Nanny�s strategies in her
utterances and explaining some factors influencing the nanny�s utterances.This
research is a qualitative descriptive with a sociopragmatics approach. The data
used in this research are taken from the nanny�s utterances in Nanny 911 series:
Dickson Family, Finck Family and Delanay�s Family. This research uses
recording, documentating, integrating and contextual method.
This first problem of this research discusses types and functions of the
nanny�s illocutionary utterances in Nanny 911�s opening, content and closing. In
each section, the nanny speaks to TV viewers, parents and children in her trained
family. There are four types of nanny�s illocutionary utterances in the opening
section, such as: (1) directives, (2) assertives, (3) commisives, and (4) phatics. In
the content section, the nanny uses seven types of illocutionary utterances, such
as (1) assertives, mostly used by the nanny, (2) commissives, (3) expressives, (4)
declarations, (5) directives, (6) verdictives, and (7) phatics. In the closing
section, she uses five types of illocutionary utterances, such as (1) assertives, (2)
directives, (3) verdictives, (4) expressives, (5) phatics.
The second problem discusses some strategies used by the nanny when she
speaks to TV viewers, parents and children in her trained family . There are three
strategies used by the nanny, such as (1) direct literal utterances with affirmatives
are the first most utterances used by her, (2) indirect literal utteraces are the
second most utterances politely used by her to have parents and children in her
trained family , (3) direct illiteral utterances are the third most used by the nanny
to TV viewers, parents and children in her trained family. The direct literal
utterences are mostly used by the nanny because she wants to convey her
messages simply and obviously, so that her hearers are able to understand well.
The third problem is some factors influencing the nanny�s utterances. Those
