Summary: | This research describes how the strategic factors that include internal and external
factors applied as strategic management tools at PT Dok dan Perkapalan Surabaya
(PT DPS), a stated-owned company which engaged in shipyard sector. The
purpose of this research are to identify the strategic position of the ship repair as
strategic business unit which owned by PT DPS with its biggest competitor and to
analyze the ship repair business strategies in order to increase sales and growth of
market share.
Selected research is descriptive research. The primary data sources were
obtained from questionnaires, interview and direct observation in the company.
While the secondary data were obtained from literature, text books, supporting
journals, magazine, and other articles related to the shipyard industry.
Analysis tools used in this research include the BCG growth-share matrix,
SWOT matrix, and the grand strategy matrix. Form each of these analysis tools
provide models that suit for the company and subsequently compared with the
strategy being executed by the company.
The results of the evaluation strategy that is run by PT DPS indicate
conformity with some of the tools of analysis used in this study. Where the
condition of the company�s current supports for the aggresive strategy to increase
order of ship repair and to expand market share. The strategy indicates that the
factor of strengths and opportunities have given sufficient support to support the
company�s strategy in facing of shipyard industry competition, especially in the
field of ship repair.
