description This thesis explores the concepts of accountability and public confidence as it applies to the RCMP in British Columbia, specifically examining the existing model of accountability, and the erosion of accountability and public trust with the RCM, in British Columbia, over the past two decades. The thesis answers the questions: "What is the RCMP accountability model within British Columbia?"; "Has public trust with the RCMP in British Columbia eroded, and if so, can public trust be restored with the RCMP in British Columbia?"; and "What steps or measures can be taken to restore this trust, including constructing an accountability model that may be better suited for the RCMP?" The research fmdings highlight opportunities that exist for the RCMP, as an organization, to develop a more fulsome, comprehensive, and balanced approach to accountability within British Columbia and beyond.
