Theoretically, we analyze the degree to which sclerosis of local labor markets (lack of mobility) plays a role in the elder generation’s choice and reinforces the inclination by high and middle income households not to support public investment in human capital formation, thereby reinforcing inequality across generations. We evaluate this feedback loop using a wide range of USA and European micro-data.
