Resumo:Potential step chronoamperometry at microdisc electrodes is studied for a simple one electron reduction (A + e- ⇌ B). Simulations are used to explore quantitatively the effect of electrode kinetics on the current-time transients resulting from such measurements. The use of these transients to extract kinetic parameters, within the Butler-Volmer formulation, is discussed, and the procedure illustrated using the one electron electroreduction of oxygen in n-hexyltriethylammonium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([N6,2,2,2][NTf2]) as a model experimental system. © 2009 American Chemical Society.
