description A new white beam powder diffraction facility has been constructed in station 16.4 of the Daresbury laboratory Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS). The station consists of a beam definition apparatus, a number of sample environments and an energy-dispersive powder diffractometer. The facility is optimised for kinetic studies using high energy X-rays. The facility is also equipped with a 1000 tonne hydraulic press for high pressure, high temperature studies. An overview of the station hardware, electronics and data acquisition software is presented. The use of this facility is illustrated with data collected as part of an in-situ, time resolved study of the high temperature hydrothermal synthesis of a microporous aluminophosphate.
