Description
Summary:A total of 147 NANOG and NANOGNB Refseq, Ensembl and blastp identified un-annotated protein sequences from mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish were downloaded and aligned using MAFFT before being visually inspected for conserved motifs. A series of six conserved motifs were identified. 1 - Alignment positions 505-519, this region of the NANOG protein is conserved between all species but not shared with NANOGNB. 2 - Alignment positions 524-530, this region of the NANOG and NANOGNB proteins is conserved across all species . 3 - Alignment positions 544-554, this region of NANOGNB is conserved only between reptile and bird NANOG proteins, and not with the mammal NANOG proteins. 4 - Alignment positions 555-581, this region is conserved between the NANOGNB proteins. 5 - Alignment positions 584-650, this region defines the homeodomain and is conserved across all NANOG and NANOGNB proteins. 6 - Alignment positions 684-690, this region of the NANOG protein is conserved between all species but not shared with NANOGNB.
