| Summary: | This paper highlights an unusual lesion occurring within the ovary of a 31-month-old child. The clinical presentation was of abdominal swelling, which imaging localized to the right ovary. The clinical impression was of a cystic ovarian tumor. A right salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. Histologic examination of the ovary showed the presence of several cystic channels lined by bland endothelium and containing material consistent with lymph. The features were of a primary lymphangioma of the ovary. This is an uncommon condition of the ovary, occurring usually in the fifth decade of life, may be asymptomatic and found incidentally, or may cause menstrual disturbances. This is the first report of a lymphangioma occurring in the ovary of a child. |
