Summary: | We thank Drs Nair and Morgan for their interest in our paper. They raise a very important point about pre-pregnancy care for women with medical co-morbidities. The most recent report from the UK Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths and Morbidity showed that 74% of the women who died between 2009 and 2012 had one or more medical co-morbidities.[1] A key recommendation of the report was for high level actions to improve pregnancy care among women with medical co-morbidities, including appropriate training of physicians engaged in caring for pregnant women, as well as designing and providing appropriate and evidence-based care to women with medical co-morbidities across the entire care spectrum (pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy and delivery, and postpartum).
