Description
Summary:
This article explores the relationship between Mozambique’s so-called “success story” and the rapid spread of mobile phones in recent years, in an attempt to shed light on the dynamics of transformation underway in the country, namely growing disparity and changing patterns of accumulation and redistribution. Drawing on research conducted in Inhambane, Southern Mozambique, it examines some of the implications telecommunication is having on sociality and argues that mobile phone practices not only reflect and reproduce social hierarchies, but also participate in the negotiation of inequalities.
