THE PINNING OF A DOMAIN-WALL BY WEAKENED BONDS IN 2 DIMENSIONS

Description
Summary:The pinning of a domain wall by a row of weakened bonds is studied in the solid-on-solid limit of the two-dimensional Ising model. If the weakened bonds lie near the edge of the system the domain wall has a roughening transition, but if they lie in the bulk, then they localise the domain wall at all temperatures. A continuum version of the model shows similar behaviour, in contrast to continuum models of roughening in three dimensions.
