Sumari:In this paper the author compares the potential capabilities of the NNTT with those of existing and proposed facilities both ground based and in space. In this way the performance gains offered by the NNTT are illustrated and those areas in which a 15m diameter telescope will provide a unique capability or a revolutionary increase in efficiency are highlighted. He then discusses some astronomical problems to illustrate the potential impact that a larger telescope might have.
