The paper discusses education, child poverty, income, employment in the financial industry, and life expectancy, and looks at the existing spatial patterns of these indicators. These patterns are not mapped in a conventional way but use a gridded cartogram which gives everyone equal space. What can be seen in these maps and statistics is the fragmented nature of London, which is not only a 'tale of two cities ', but a patchwork of divisions that permeate many parts of the city. Measures to tackle these problems are needed, but seeing them where they are most apparent is a first step in understanding them and finding appropriate solutions. |
