Description
Summary:This report has been produced in order to provide information and statistics for those responsible for planning the futures of the 15 church-related Cathedrals Group universities and so a copy has already been sent to each of the vice chancellors. Based on statistics published in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, it examines the position of each of the Cathedrals Group universities in key areas such as their teaching quality, student experience, research standing, entry standards, completion rates and social inclusion. Their subject areas are rank ordered and their student size and gender balance are also examined. In terms of their futures, negative factors include the proportion of their students in the ten lowest ranking subjects, their sparse representation in the core STEM subjects and their modest research rankings. However, they are strong in high social value subjects such as education and social work, and they rank highly in teaching quality, in the experience they offer students and in social inclusion. In particular, they do well in attracting first generation students and those who are disabled, are mature or come from low participation areas, all of which relate closely to a levelling up agenda. Th report updates chapter 3 of the paper Rock of Ages or House of Cards? The future of the Cathedrals Group universities https://ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:698f62fd-a7ff-4027-8497-0eed2e3e8853
