Summary:This article examines an episode in the relations between the Catholic and Apostolic Armenian clergy in the fourteenth century, when allegedly the representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church resorted to considerable violence to discourage the students of the monastery of Surb Xač‘ (Holy Cross) in the Naxiĵewan region of Greater Armenia to convert to Catholicism. It explores the primary sources that contain information about this incident and endeavours to reassess the impact that this conflict had on the relations of the two communities.
