Summary: | The results of a series of tests using a cone penetrometer in sand in a large calibration chamber are reported. Sand at three different densities and a range of stress states was studied. The principal finding from the tests is that cone resistance in sand depends primarily on the horizontal stress and the angle of friction but is relatively unaffected by the vertical stress. A relationship between qc, σh' and φtc' is proposed and compared with previous work in calibration chambers. -Authors |
