Summary: | We seek a solution of the quantum-corrected field equations for eleven-dimensional supergravity compactified on a seven-sphere. We show that it is plausible that such a solution admits a geometrical background which is the product of a flat Minkowski space with a round seven-sphere. The quantum corrections plays a crucial role in allowing us to avoid the situation that obtains at the tree level, namely that the four-dimentional space-time resulting in the compactification of the eleven-dimensional theory is an anti-de Sitter space-time with radius of curvature comparable to that of the "internal" space. © 1984. |
