description The article undertakes a reading of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Leopardi’s Operette morali (in particular Il dialogo di Federico Ruysch e le sue mummie and Dialogo della Natura e di un Islandese). Three main aspects are explored, suggesting an affinity between the two works: the importance of contemporary scientific research, and the Modern Prometheus in Frankenstein 1818, and in the Ruysch; the innovative use in both works of accounts of scientific expeditions in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth century; and the dialogue between Creator and Creature as expressed through Frankenstein’s Monster/Creature, and the Islandese.
