Summary:<p>This thesis is composed of two parts. The first part describes the development of a dual catalytic enantioselective 6π photocyclization (Scheme A1).</p> <p>We go on to describe the work carried out to validate the predicted reaction pathway and determine whether the photocatalytic portion of the cycle operates by photoredox catalysis or energy transfer catalysis (Figure A1).</p> <p>The second part describes the observation of non-first order racemisation of an indolyl-naphthyl atropisomer and the work carried out to reproducibly observe the effect and gather data across a number of concentrations (Figure A2).</p> <p>We then describe the combination of experimental probes and modelling carried out in the hopes of determining the underlying cause of the observed behaviour (Figure A3).</p>
