Yhteenveto:The treatment of tetracyanoethylene (1) with N-phenylaza-15-crown-5 (3) gives a new chromophoric and redox-responsive ionophore, 5, containing a tricyanovinyl redox-active moiety. The electronic absorption spectrum of 5 exhibits hypochromic shifts on binding alkali and alkaline earth metal cations. Cyclic voltammetric electrochemical investigations reveal 5 to electrochemically recognize Na+ and K+ guest cations resulting in shifts of the tricyanovinyl reduction wave to more anodic potentials. © 1990.
