Description
Summary:This paper investigates the evidence that remains for early or contemporary bindings of blockbooks printed in the fifteenth century. It reassesses the Bodleian Library’s blockbooks, looking more closely for evidence of their earliest bindings, which are discussed in three examples. It also discusses two blockbooks which are now in the New York Public Library, one of which survives in its first binding, with very little later interference.
