סיכום: | Shear flow is now an established technique for aligning anisotropically shaped micelles in small angle neutron scattering studies. We report some preliminary measurements on the interacting anisotropic micelles of the mixed cationic-nonionic surfactants cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide C16TAB, and hexaethylene glycol monohexdecyl ether, C16E6. At low C16TAB concentrations (<0.01 mol ratio), in the absence of shear the long micelles present in this system show no evidence of intermicellar interactions. On shearing the system an interaction peak is observed. In this system we assume that there are domains containing relatively few small aligned micelles, such that a broad interaction peak results. In the presence of increasing shear, these domains grow reflecting an increase in the average micelle length and a subsequent increased definition of the interparticle spacing.
