Description
Summary:
This thesis discloses the uses and development of rhodium(I) catalysis within intermolecular hydroacylation and asymmetric [2+2+2] cycloadditions.

Chapter 1 provides a general overview of the key methods and tethering strategies within the field rhodium(I) catalysed hydroacylation.

Chapter 2 describes the diverse synthesis of fully saturated O- and N-heterocycles through a hydroacylation/conjugate-addition sequence.

Chapter 3 uses azine N-oxides as novel directing groups for aldehyde C–H activation within intermolecular hydroacylation reactions.

Chapter 4 presents a short field overview of rhodium(I) catalysed [2+2+2] cycloaddition, before applying this reaction to sulfoximine desymmetrisation.
