In every country, the percentage of non-white people in the general population is much higher than it is among top editors. There continues to be no simple relationship between the percentage of non-white journalists and the percentage of non-white top editors. As many journalists and citizens continue to call for the news media to reckon with structural inequalities around race and racism, we find an increase in the number of non-white top editors in two of the countries covered—but there are still no nonwhite top editors in our sample of brands in three other countries.
