Resumo:<p>This thesis is concerned with furthering our understanding of the basis of visible region photocatalytic activity exhibited by doped TiO2-based materials. A range of experimental techniques including high resolution X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy are used to investigate electronic structure and an attempt is made to link these results to the observed photocatalytic activity. Both anionic (N) and cationic (Rh and Sn) dopants are investigated. [See pdf file for full abstract].</p>
