Summary:More than 15 years after the term was first coined, podcasting has become one of the hottest topics in media. Publisher interest has grown following the success of The Daily from the New York Times which has built an audience of 2m daily listens along with substantial annual revenues. Dozens of daily news podcasts have launched over the last 18 months. This research exploring the types of news podcasts being produced in five countries - the UK, US, Australia, Sweden and France - as well as looking at the motivations for publishers and audio platforms. The report finds that publishers are making significant investments in news podcasting hoping to attract younger audiences, build habit, and bring in additional revenue.
