Summary:Due to the persisting organ shortage in kidney transplantation the number of older donors and donors with comorbities is increasing. The use of machine perfusion in kidney preservation could possibly improve primary organ function leading to better long term results. In a multicenter trial of the study regions Belgium, the Netherlands and Nordrhein Westfalen (Germany) the effects of machine perfusion on primary function after kidney transplantation shall be investigated. Technical aspects and study details are introduced in this overview.
