Summary: | The Department of Coins, Medals and Antiques of the Bibliothèque nationale de France includes a collection of approximately one thousand cylinder seals from the ancient Near East, many of which remain unpublished. In this article we describe a research programme aimed at digitising and studying this and other similar collections, using cutting edge technologies such as line-scan images, digital roll-outs, microscopic imaging and computational image recognition. Images and metadata of the all of the seals, including the unpublished ones, are presented on a dedicated website, also described in this article.
