description A study was carried out in the greenhouse at the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture at University Malaysia Sabah, Sandakan campus to investigate the effects of NPK fertilizer rate (90:30:20, 120:60:40 and 150:90:60) incorporated with an application rate of vermicompost (4, 5, and 6 ton ha-1). The objective of the study is to determine optimum rate for NPK and vermicompost towards growth and yields of planted sweetcom hybrid in Silabukan soil and determine nutrients content that exist on Silabukan soil before and after study. The research site is located at Sungai Batang, Sandakan, Sabah. This study has started on April 12th 2015 until September 12th 2015. The design of the study use Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Each treatment has three replications. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results for vegetative growth showed N3B3 has the highest plant height that is 132cm. While, N2Bl treatment showed highest diameter that is 6.33cm. Treatment N2B2 and N3B2 showing the highest number of leaves per plant which, 16.33cm. All treatments have the same amount of cobs that are one cob per plant Treatment Nl83 showed the highest distance of cob from soil surface, 46.17cm. Ear of com length show that N3B2 has longest ear length, 16.83 cm and the diameter of cob show NIB3 treatment is topmost with 12.93 cm. Treatment N381 showed highest ear number per plant that is 12. 93cm. Total grain com showed that treatment N3Bl is the highest at 185.67g and treatment N3B3 treatment showed the highest weight of 100 grains of maize which, is 8. 97g. N3Bl treatment is treatment of the highest com yield forecast of maize grain yield, 0.34 ton ha-1 and the result's corncob 1.06 tons ha-J • Treatment of soil analysis shows that N3B3 have the highest pH value of 4.8 and the percentage of organic ingredients of the highest of 6.643%. N3B2 treatment contains the highest amount of total nitrogen 0.32%. NIB3 treatment produces high available phosphorus of 4.35ppm. Therefore, the use of vermicompost and NPK on Silabukan soil is the best on N383 treatment for producing higher plant height, higher length of the cob, greater weight of 100 grains of maize cobs per hectare yield and a high percentage of organic material. Meanwhile, the second proposal suggested is N3Bl for producing com grain yield per hectare is the highest, com tree circumference, and the highest number of leaves. This study indicated that there is a significant difference between the use of NPK rates and vermicompost which differ on income and growth of hybrid com. Therefore, further study has to be conducted to prove this observation.
