Summary: | Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) has become the subject of intensive research in power electronic converters for several decades. A vital part of the research is the investigation of the harmonics for various PWM schemes. The aim of such exercise is to have an insight on the frequency spectra, which will lead to critical design decisions such as dimensioning of filter components, determining of power losses, and categorizing the general performance of the inverter. Typically, the harmonics are calculated using time-based simulation packages, such as MATLAB 4 or PSpice 5 . With this approach, the switched waveform is sampled in time, and its harmonic profile is then computed using discrete Fourier Transform (DFT).
