Summary: | The antioxidant activity of flavonoids isolated from the leaves of Artocarpus fulvicortex was carried out by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyI (DPPH) free radical scavenging assay. Norartocarpetin showed low antioxidant activity. While, other compounds did not scavenge the stable free radical. Artocarpus fulvicortex is one of Malaysian rare Artocarpus species and locally known as ‘keledang tampang gajah ’. Phytochemical study on the leaves of A. fulvicortex has resulted in the isolation of several flavonoids comprising three pyranoflavones, one flavone and two chalcones. These compounds have been characterized by using spectroscopic methods and through comparison with data reported in the literatures. |
