description New timber beams or existing timber structures can be strengthened using FRP, a system that has been reported to be more effective than steel due to its lightweight for easy handling. This research was conducted in order to investigate the bending behavior of timber beams strengthened with Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) rods. Seven beams with the size of 100 x 200 x 3000 mm were tested. One of the beams was used as a control beam(unstrengthened) while the remaining six beams were strengthened before tested to failure under four point loading. The results showed that the strengthened beams performed better than the control beam with nominal increase in ultimate lo&d and stiffness. The ultimate load has increased between 20% - 30% for the strengthened beams when compared to the control beam. The stiffness increased between 24% - 60% for the stengthened beams. GFRP plate bonding system has a good potential to be used in the new construction or rehabilitation process of timber structures.
