Summary: | The maintenance strategy of the road asset is largely depending on the balance between the budget allocation and cost benefit study of the particular route (i.e. traffic volume, deterioration rate, treatment costs etc.). At network level the route condition may be assessed based on the IRI values whereby the severity of the functional property is determined. At project level however a more detail assessment is required in order to evaluate the type of treatment. The treatment used would need to be justified in terms of functional and structural condition of that particular pavement. The Pavement Condition Assessment (PCA) method of testing is specifically designed to evaluate the functional and structural integrity of the pavement structure. The used of specialized equipment in the PCA (i.e. Road Scanner, Falling Weight Deflectometer etc.) conforms with international bodies requirements (i.e. ARRB, TRRL, AASHTO). This case study would demonstrate the use of PCA as a tool in determining the type of treatment required based on the functional and structural adequacy or inadequacy variance of the pavement structure along the route FT003 Jalan Tebrau Johor Bahru.
