description In this paper a study on the influence of geogrid on the bearing capacity of square footing supported on sand beds subjected to vertical loading using PLAXIS has been presented. Simulations are also done with planar geogrid layers and soil beds without any reinforcement to compare the efficacy of the geogrid reinforcement. The results show that the footing pressures are well distributed within the geogrid mattress and transfer the same to a wider area of the sub soil below.
