description | This study focuses on the formulation of non-linear material behaviour of an anchored reinforcing bar (ARB) using the Meshfree method. Polynomial and Radial Point Interpolation methods are the two Meshfree methods used to analyse the ARB with longitudinal slip. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate that these two methods are reliable in analysing the ARB by comparing their performance with analytical solution and Finite Element Methods. Verifications with experimental result are also given. The algorithm of Polynomial Point Interpolation Method (PPIM) and Radial Point Interpolation Method (RPIM) are developed based on onedimensional formulation of the ARB with longitudinal slip effect. The selected numerical parameters of the PPIM and RPIM are studied and analysed parametrically to gain optimal values, such as number of background cell, size of support domain, dimensionless shape parameters (qrpim and ac) and polynomial basis (m). By conducting the parametric study for the PPIM shape function from the lower to the higher order through change in size of the support domain, it has been shown that an inconsistency problem inherent in PPIM formulation can be overcome. The outcome of this study demonstrates that the application of the Meshfree method has the potential of providing reliable results and thus can function as the alternative numerical method to the Finite Element method. |
